Payphone Restorations
I began acquiring old payphones off eBay in 2005 with the purpose of parting them out and building more complete examples from certain regions. I would acquire individual coin doors, coin mechanisms and new-old-stock parts that were still in boxes from the 80s. After assembly I would wire them up to accept a quarter to get a tone connected to a VoIP ATA with Asterisk as the PBX.
A long-term goal is to acquire 3 payphones, restore them, and install them in the Boston area and provide free phone calls but also will be able to call each other and ring the other payphones.
With new old-stock New York Telephone branding and coin vault door. It's hooked up via Asterisk VoIP PBX with coin slot working. It can be used to buzz people into the elevator.
These payphones were acquired on eBay and used for parts to create one working payphone.
This payphone was in extremely good condition and was brought to life with rewiring the coin slot and adding a Cisco VoIP ATA to interface to Asterisk.
